Humanitarian and Development Assistance towards Peacebuilding:
For Achieving Human Security and Sustainable Human Development in Our Global Society
-Case Studies of International Cooperation through Community Based Protection and Empowerment in Asia-

Brief description:

International community has experienced numerous conflicts among various states and non state actors affecting severe complexed emergencies since the end of the cold war. The number of displaced such as refugees, internally displaced persons and stateless persons has increased to more than 108 million, the highest numbers ever in our history. Such forced migration continues to escalate globally with the current world pandemic crisis. The previous national security framework which considered state as primarily responsible to protect its own citizens, had its limitation as many lives were lost due to conflicts initiated internationally, regionally and locally. International cooperation towards sustainable peace enabling durable solutions for the people severely affected such as refugees and the communities is critically needed for achieving human security with their meaningful participation assured in every process of sustainable peace and human development. This Ph.D. research emphasizes that ensuring Community Based Protection and enabling participation of refugees and the communities are indeed indispensable for future humanitarian and development assistance towards durable solutions for ensuring human security and peacebuilding. Refugees and the communities can be the change agent if they can participate actively during every decision making process in the field of peace and human security with the support of both international and local communities.
